HARKNESS SCREENS SUPPLIES PERLUX ® 140 SCREEN FOR LEADING ART COMMISSION.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, OCTOBER 11, 2011 — When Tate Modern faced the challenge of installing a large portrait anamorphic borderless projection screen for FILM, a leading art commission, it turned to Harkness’ Perlux® 140 screen for the solution.

FILM, the twelfth commission in The Unilever Series is an 11-minute silent 35mm film by acclaimed British artist Tacita Dean. The film is projected onto a 13m x 7.5m Perlux® 140 screen at the end of the darkened Turbine Hall. It is the first work in The Unilever Series, devoted to the moving image, and celebrates the masterful techniques of analogue film-making.

Harkness’ Perlux® 140 was chosen by Tate Modern due to its versatility and primary usage as a surface for cinema projection.

Perlux® 140 offers high contrast, bright pictures and wide viewing angles with 40% higher brightness than matt white surfaces. Proprietary and unique seam welding process ensures that screens have no visible seams under projection conditions.

“We are delighted to have been involved with this project. The installation is a stunning homage to the dying art of film and the sheer scale of the exhibition provides an indication as to its importance in film-making and art,” says Tony Dilley, International Sales Manager at Harkness Screens.
FILM is exhibiting in the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern between October 11th 2011 and March 11th 2012.
